چکیده

In many bioenergetic investigations, the discrimination of resting and activity metabolism represents an important problem. Personal observation, a possible solution to this problem, becomes very impractical in highly automated long-term experiments. An adequate method of measuring activity should meet the following demands: it should be able to quantify the movement of several objects simultaneously, it should be usable with animals of different shapes and sizes, and it should cause minimal disturbance to the animals. Very simple methods, such as registration of electric potentials of aquatic animals (Cairns & Thompson, 1980), become difficult with more than a single animal, and photocell arrays lack flexibility. A video-based apparatus, however, can be adapted to a variety of problems by using different lenses on the camera. Expensive and sophisticated digital image-analysis techniques are not necessary. Inexpensive methods for tracing single objects (Lubinski, Dickson & Cairns, 1977) or light sources (Atkinson & Faulkner, 1981), as well as detecting objects crossing certain lines (van Lenterten, van der Linden & Gluvers, 1976), have been described in the literature, but these methods cannot be adapted to handle several objects or shapes like worms without losing their simplicity. This paper presents a quite different approach: the area displacement of the objects is estimated instead of their position and velocity.

P 42: Effect of Hesperetin During Pregnancy and Lactation on Locomotor Activity and Anxiety-Like Behaviors in Animal Model of Autism

Introduction: Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a heterogeneous group of neurodevelopmental disorders that are defined with a wide range of behavioral impairments including social and communication deficits. Apart from these core symptoms, a significant number of ASD individuals display higher levels of anxiety. The present study is designed to understand the antioxidant efficacy of hesperetin...

Evaluation of Antidepressant-like Effect of Citrus Maxima Leaves in Animal Models of Depression

Objective(s) This study planned to assess antidepressant like activity of aqueous extract from leaves of Citrus maxima Merr. (Rutaceae). Materials and Methods Boiling was used for aqueous extraction. Acute toxicity study was performed in mice. Antidepressant activity was studied using locomotor activity test, modified forced swimming test (FST) and tail suspension test (TST). Three doses 100...

Partitioning of Energy in Fish: Can Reduction of Swimming Activity Compensate for the Cost of Production?

1. By using a new video activity monitoring processor (Kaufmann, 1983) in conjunction with a large respirometer, we have measured swimming activity, oxygen consumption and reproductive investment (in the form of gonadal growth) of roach (Rutilus rutilus L.) during a seasonal cycle. 2. If the effect of temperature on metabolism is taken into account it can be shown that swimming activity is dras...

The effect of Co-administrtion of Ascorbic acid and Bromocriptine in nucleus accumbens shell on locomotor activity in male rats by Open Field Test

Background: Ascorbic acid (AA) as a vitamin and neuromodulator is present in the most part of CNS such as nucleus accumbens shell (Acbsh), so the main purpose of this investigation was to evaluated the effect of AA and their Co-administration in Acbsh on anxiety and motor activity of rat by Open Field Test(OFT). Methods: Forty nine adult male Wistar rats (220-270 g) were used into 7 grou...

Relationship between Motor Skill Competence and Physical Activity in Girls

This study examined the relationship between motor skill competence, and physical activity in 8–9 years-old girls (N=352). Locomotor and object control skill competence was assessed, using the Test of Gross Motor Development-2, and the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Children was used to assess physical activity. Regression analysis revealed that locomotor proficiency accounted for 20% (P...
